Advancing better leadership

Project Ascendance is a research study conducted by Artemis Connection on the racial and gender divide in leadership. Launched in 2016, the study was conducted for the purpose of understanding why and how individuals ascend to high-level and management roles within their industry. Through hundreds of interview with women and racial minorities at different stages of their career, we have built a powerful body of research and identified new ways for women and minorities to advance in the workplace.

As part of our 4.5% promise to set aside 4.5% of our time each month to engage in pro bono work for the sole purpose of changing lives, communities, and organizations, Project Ascendance represents our commitment to advancing women and racial minorities in leadership.

We’re excited to share our findings

Although this last year introduced many new movements and hashtags that brought the topic of racial and gender equity back into the national conversation, action remains sparse. That’s why we hosted the ASCEND Leadership Summit: to share our research and findings and lead a day focused on actions, tactics and strategies that will advance more women and people of color into decision-making positions across the private sector.

Our theme for this inaugural Summit was mentoring v. championing, exploring how active
sponsorship of underrepresented groups is one of the most effective ways to build more
diverse and inclusive organizational leadership. It’s time to disrupt business-as-usual and make
space for new leaders – we wanted to inspire our attendees to do exactly that. Through a series
of keynotes, panels, breakout sessions, and social hours, we uncovered, ideated, and shared the
latest thinking around talent development, workplace bias, and future trends.
